Cleveland, Ohio is commemorating that watershed event by celebrating the re-birth of a much greener city. For those unaware, the Cuyahoga River fire was an unfortunate incident that occurred on June 22, 1969 when some molten steel fell from a passing train into a slick of industrial waste floating on the water’s surface. This led to a groundbreaking piece of legislation that sparked a major environmental movement. Cleveland has since taken great strides in becoming a green city on a blue lake!

Positively Cleveland is dubbing 2009 "The Year of the River," and has compiled a list of 75 green reasons to love Cleveland along with eco-friendly ways to celebrate summer at positivelycleveland.com/h2ohio.

is there such thing as green towels?

While reading about eco amenities, I started thinking about how else a room can provide more eco friendly choices, such as towels. But most towels are made of cotton AND polyester (a green no-no) usually in some country like China or Malaysia. Are there greener options? I've heard of towel reuse programs, but that doesn't take into consideration the materials towels are made from. So, what about green towels? I never really understood very well about this " climate change" thing until 4 years ago...Now I think this is a problem that concerns all of us. Tourism has contributed to this phenomenon (because of the air travelling, pollution, and other aspects). But also it will be one of the most affected areas by it. And still, there are touristic projects that benefit the economic precedence rather than the welfare of their society and care of natural resources. Worse, there's still a huge demand for this type of tourist destinations. So...what's the solution or what can we do to help this serious problem decline? I think the first step is be aware of this problem and make conscious of the consequences of it for each one of us. How would you help to decline or reduce this problem in your daily live and when you travel somewhere?

Tourism, responsible or victim?

What do you think about this sentence: "Tourism is responsible for the effects or changes that may suffer a touristic comunity , but it's also a victim of this effects and changes".
