Hi! I never really understood very well about this " climate change" thing until 4 years ago...Now I think this is a problem that concerns all of us. Tourism has contributed to this phenomenon (because of the air travelling, pollution, and other aspects). But also it will be one of the most affected areas by it. And still, there are touristic projects that benefit the economic precedence rather than the welfare of their society and care of natural resources. Worse, there's still a huge demand for this type of tourist destinations. So...what's the solution or what can we do to help this serious problem decline? I think the first step is be aware of this problem and make conscious of the consequences of it for each one of us. How would you help to decline or reduce this problem in your daily live and when you travel somewhere?

First off, I think that travel destinations that promote ecotourism and eco awareness are doing a big part to help educate people, and even if people choose air travel to these destinations or hotels, it is serving a purpose because they are learning about sustainability. So I think it's a good thing.

And it would be even better if people paid their carbon offset for their air travel to these destinations.

I think, like you say, that awareness is the first step. Education and living an eco experience on vacation is important.

Climate changes have been a constant for ages maybe since the big bang ocurred. The thing is that due to our anxiety the rythm of these changes have gone out of control and taken a turn for the wrong direction.

But I'm unsure if we have to gain conscience of the situation. We are aware of what's going on. Nobody can deny it I think.

Solutions, to me, are the ones that encourage eco travel in nearer areas (although traveling far is a temptation!) or trying, if possible, to travel through cleaner energies (although most of us can't own a sailboat, a hybrid car bus or bycicle) even in the daily routine. That can ease the impact gasoline- fueled travel has on our atmosphere. At least that's my take on it.

Sorry, I meant to say "a bycicle, bus or hybrid car WILL DO", missed that!

I think we all should take responsible decisions when choosing the destination and hotel for vacations. Staying in an ECO hotel, paying carbon offset and renting an hybrid car can help.

I also think that preserving the environment is something that concerns us all, for that reason We should make changes in every aspect of our lives, that includes the way we travel and the type of destination. There might be some people involved in Eco Trourism only for the economic reasons, but if that helps to reduce the ecological impact it’s a valid contribution.

I have been reading a lot lately and I have made some changes in my habits in order to be more “ECO”. I now use only rechargeable batteries and I also changed the light bulbs in my house to fluorescent ones. I also try to avoid using plastic knives and forks when I order food. Probably that’s not much, but I think that if everyone starts to make little changes in their everyday life We should all notice the change soon.

Hello everyone,
I believe that when one travels responsably it really takes a turn on the well being of the earth. You help out in a way.
Staying at an eco hotel really helps out a great deal on the impact and plus you learn alot!! If one does travel they should pay for the carbon offset and if you rent a car at your destination, its preferable if its a hybrid car.
In conclusion, a high percentage in the world loves to travel and they probably do it every year but one can keep into consideration going to an eco hotel rather than a 5 star hotel.

I must say that I always get a bit of an uncomfortable feeling when I see all these websites about ecotravel and green tourism and it'a all about exotic places. Ok, we are all dreaming about far away places, but if you want to be ecological, one has to become more modest. Just to pay off your consciouss by booking in an ecohotel is not enough, I think. I'm not perfect myself , last year I still went to Indonesia by plane, but most of the years I stay in my own part of France, hence limiting the total number of kilometers by car. Or, like this year, I'm taking the train (to finland and russia). It takes much more time, but is fun and at least I do not feel bad about it.
