Azulik is a paradise
I stayed at Azulik in April 2008 and the place is a paradise.

I also read yesterday in Escapism Travel Magazine that Azulik has been voted by them the coolest, sexiest holiday destination on the planet (escapism-magazine.com/read.html).

Azulik is one of the most magic and unique places I have ever stayed. It's on a wild and virginal bit of coastline a few miles south of the Temples of Tulum. The road access is lined with jungle. At reception you walk along sandy lanes to get to your cabana - there are fifteen cabanas raised on stilts or on the tops of cliffs. The cabanas are constructed from organic wood with thatched roofs and ceiling-to-floor windows that face into the jungle and a boardwalk that faces out over the ocean. They have outdoor bath tubs and steps down to the beach and hanging day beds. Inside there is no electricity, no phone or tv or fridge. There is however a huge bath carved out of a zapote tree trunk and sixteen candles which you can light at night-time. The bed is queen size with billowing cotton. There are mirrors embedded with seashells and wonderful ethnic decorations. The food at the nearby restaurant is good and healthy and inexpensive. The magic of the place is in the essence of nature and Azulik blends in well with nature. Not having electricity is not a problem at all. In the daytime, you spend most of the time lazing on the day-bed, or at the nearby beach (2 mins walk) or in the restaurant or some other activity. As dusk approaches you can soak in the outdoor tub watching the sun set, then head down for dinner along the candle-lit jungle paths. It is very romantic with the candles inside the cabana and the moon outside over the breathtaking Caribbean sea.

I cannot think of anywhere more stunning than Azulik and will return early next year for a week.

Retreat, Relax, Refresh, Renew
We had a wonderful and memorable retreat at Azulik. We stayed for 7 nights, from May 10 thru 17th. This is such an ideal time of year to visit Tulum It seems that the wind dies down just a little more, it's warmer in the morning and very comfortable at night.

We loved Azulik for the location... you have the Caribbean at your doorstep. We loved the ammenities...the large deck open to the sea, the deck bed, the soaking tub, the large indoor tub for two, the candlelight at night, the sound of the ocean below. We enjoyed some of the best sleep ever! We enjoyed the c/o policy of Azulik, relaxing on the deck with a book, or soaking in the tub with the Caribbean all around, and taking a siesta on the bed outside, even spending the night outside if the wind would allow it. It is all so relaxing here. We loved the paths thru the forest leading to Copal, and the Maya Spa next door. We loved waking to the sounds of the birds in the forest and the sea hitting the rocks below. The sunrises at Azulik take your breath away. Each day it is always different!

Our check in was smooth, and we were taken to seavilla #3, as requested.....ahhhh....we were home! Just hearing the sea below our villa, and the soft sound of the wind and birds...nothing else...does it's magic on one's soul....such a beautiful location - to be up on the cliff with the sea in front of you as far as the eye can see. We enjoyed room service breakfasts delivered by Arsenio. Always polite and always on time. We also enjoyed eating outside at the sister resort, Copal, next door The coffee here is excellent and fresh brewed. the food and service was very attentive as well.

We had plenty of hot water, only running out once, but the gas tank was promptly replaced, and reliable after that. The maid really did an excellent job on our cabana every day. The floors were always spotless of sand, and if we needed anything extra, she would accomodate.

We took advantage of the Maya Spa services, and loved it. Some of the massages in the forest palapas, such as the Mayan Spa with hot stones, and the Chocolate Exfoliation were sooooo relaxing. I really enjoyed my massage at the playa tent by Rudolpho, as well. You must try one on your visit!

We enjoyed our time on the c/o beach at Copal. Some days, most people were nude, other days, most were not. It varies from day to to day. But it really makes for a relaxing vacation to get up and go for a swim and not have to lay in a wet, hot suit. Also, no tan lines! We enjoyed having beach service, ordering a bucket of beers and delicious ceviche while we were enjoying the view of the Caribbean from our palapa. Paradise!

The deck beds are awesome! After a day on the beach, we would take a soak in the deck tub, then take a nap on our deck, being lulled to sleep by the waves below.........ahhhhhh. Ultimately relaxed and refreshed for an evening out. Some nights, we would enjoy the deck bed gazing at the star-lit sky, or the moon shimmering over the Caribe...just awesome!

When I returned home from our vacation, I felt like a new man, relaxed , refreshed and rejuvenated! Between all the massages, relaxation, atmosphere, and healthy eating, it made me forget about the stresses of the real world for the week that we were there, and made it that much harder to get back into it!

We had our own car, so we visited the Muyil ruins, about 25 minutes South from the pueblo on the 307. Muyil is less touristy, and you may have the place to youself as we did. It may not be as grand and Chitzen Itza or Tulum ruins, but it is very cool, as some of the areas are still un-excavated. We ate at many great places along the beach road and in the pueblo. For a more detailed report with photos and descriptions of great places to eat and visit, PM me and I'll send you a link. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.
