WARNING: violent manager
Together with my girlfriend I was at „Cabañas Papaya Playa“ at the wonderful beach of Tulum at the end of October 2008. As at this place I had my worst experience of all my backpack-journeys (approx. 14 months in all countries from Colombia to Mexico) I’d like to warn all travelers of the violent and dangerous manager in this place! Following happened to us:
We arrived there in the late night after a long journey coming from Belize, not having any more energy to take a look at various hotels (Papaya Playa was recommended to us by the taxi driver). After talking a first look at the cabañas and all the rest we paid 3 days in advance to get much better price – although we had never done this before.
In the first night it rained and we had to find out that the roof leaked and that water dropped down to our heads when trying to sleep in the bed, besides of that all the mosquito net was full of holes. Of course I complained next morning, the manager told me to move our bed to another corner (!), the rest of the staff promised me to repair the roof and the mosquito net.
Nothing happened, in the second night it rained even more and so it was impossible to sleep for only a few minutes. As there is no electric light all the night I couldn’t complain in the same night, so I did this in the early morning.
They told me that they can’t do anything, after some discussion the manager joined and as a kind of mockery he offered us a completely broken and even much worse cabaña fort he 3rd night. As I couldn’t accept this of course and as he didn’t thing refunding our money that we already paid fort he 3rd night I told him that I would write about that problems to LP. At no point of the passionate discussion I treated him personally, neither verbally nor in other form.
After all I decided to give up and wanted to walk back to our cabaña to move out. The manager followed me, beat me down and told me that he would come back with his gun if I should write to LP or report to the police.

Fortunately he didn’t hurt me seriously, but still my almost new 200€-glasses were broken and of course the shock was big. As don’t wish anyone else of course to have such bad holiday-experiences I strongly warn all travelers to go to this place !!!!
