Lamu, Coast, Kenya Summary
Kenya has always been one of the best places in Africa to enjoy the experiences ecotourism has to offer. Many tourists choose Kenya as a holiday destination for its beaches, said to be among the most beautiful in the world. Nevertheless, safaris still remain one of the most popular tourist activities by far. This Eastern African country has some of the world’s best National Parks and reserves, where travelers can experience the beauty and wonder of nature first hand. The parks are famous for lions, giraffes, elephants and huge herds of zebras, wildebeests, or buffaloes. Kenyan guides are expert wildlife spotters and birders with a profound knowledge of local culture and surroundings. Visitors can travel to exotic destinations throughout the country and gain a sense of appreciation of nature as well as the traditional cultures prevailing in the areas.

My advise: visit Lamu Old Town (a UNESCO site) and Takwa Ruins on Manda Island

Shela Beach and Lamu
This place has got great atmosphere, very calm and friendly. Almost an hour’s walk from town is one of the best unspoiled beaches I’ve even been to, Shela Beach. Try to make some time to visit this beautiful place. My suggestion: don’t rush. Just walk about Lamu and its labyrinths and enjoy your time here.

quality time
Although this is not a place of world-famous monuments and landmarks, it is a haven for any tourist who wants to take it slow and get to know Kenya and its people. There are plenty of attractions to visit. There’s Lamu Museum and the Old Fort and the Lamu Market (right in front of where I stayed, Subira House).
