charming
If you go to Peten, then try to visit its Mayan ruins. Don’t forget to visit the little town of Flores for some nice shopping. I stayed at La Lancha, and would definitely recommend it. It’s clean, friendly, and the staff is extremely helpful.

Coban Highlands & S.W. Guate
Coban is a beautiful area of the northern Highlands. I've not been there since I was 13. But it was a lot of fun. Muy Bonita. from that area you can see incredible Semuc Chumpey. A Raging River that dissappears underground for 500 ft. The overflow turns into 13 crystal clear waterfalls/pools for which one can swim in... What a way to spend the day.
Find an eco-helicopter ;-} or take the 3 hour washboard roads with an eco-pillow in hand... ;-} As it's a haul out there. Also along the way you can see Lanquin. Another Cave system which has a raging river pouring out of it. Also this cave system starting from here continues all the way under half of Guatemala to HueHuetenengo - (Going on memory from childhood - so could be ChiChiCastinengo, of HueHue.) ;-}

In S.W. Guatemala... Xela, bigger city, and nearby Zunil. Volcan de Zunil provides some great relaxation with Los Fuentes Georginas - A wonderful hotsprings once enjoyed by the Mayans.

Hope that provides some good info/insight, and info for activities. We'll have to get back down there for some fun and adventure and update you on the latest eco-properties of the area.

Great rainforest experience
If you come to the area, the best way to enjoy the rainforest in a safe way is to stay at a lodge/resort. I recommend La Lancha Resort. The accommodations and tours are great, with very informative guides. And don’t worry if you think you won’t be able to enjoy a night out in downtown Flores, they can arrange it all for you.
